Before scheduling our first Zoom call, consider setting yourself a SMART goal. I also recommend jotting down a few specific questions you wish to discuss so we can make the most of our time together.
A SMART goal is a well-defined and structured objective that follows the SMART criteria. The SMART acronym stands for:
Specific: The goal should be clear and precise, leaving no room for ambiguity. It answers the questions: What do you want to achieve? Why is it important? How will it be accomplished?
Measurable: The goal should be quantifiable, allowing you to track progress and determine when it has been achieved. It answers the question: How will you measure your progress or know when you've reached the goal?
Achievable: The goal should be realistic and attainable based on your resources, skills, and circumstances. It should stretch you but still be within reach. It answers the question: Is the goal reasonable and achievable?
Relevant: The goal should be aligned with your broader objectives and aspirations. It should be relevant and meaningful to your overall mission. It answers the question: Does this goal matter and contribute to your broader objectives?
Time-bound: The goal should have a specific timeframe for completion. It sets a clear deadline, helping to create a sense of urgency and accountability. It answers the question: When will the goal be accomplished?
By adhering to the SMART criteria, you create a goal that is well-defined, actionable, and has a higher likelihood of success. This framework is widely used in various fields, including business, education, personal development, and project management, to ensure that objectives are effectively planned and executed. You may even use SMART goals for your clients.
